Course Results

This has been the first summer of coaching without Gordon Scott and I have missed him very much indeed. Many thanks to the pupils and parents who expressed their condolences.

Once again the Twynersh Fisheries complex has been the main venue for beginners' courses. Lake 3 has produced lots of hard fighting perch to nearly 2lb which can be quite a challenge for a young angler on a four metre whip. Lake 7 produced a 4lb bronze bream to James Gray and later on at RMC's nursery lake on a special full day outing he caught a 4lb 7oz bream to better it. Tayler Clark caught his first pike from Lake 7. James Grey also caught a 2lb eel with which he had a little handling trouble...

I don't think he'll be asking the careers advisor for tips on becoming an eel wrestler!

Lake 3 also produced some good roach to over a 1lb. Sophie Daborn, who came to keep her brother Adam company, caught several on her first outing. Adam also caught some large perch on that and later courses. Another brother and sister team, Lauren and Stephan Mastrogiacomo, also did well.

The full day specialist outings for more experienced youngsters have been quite popular. Karl Turner, one of my most capable young anglers, has been plagued by bad luck on a couple of these special courses but has been very patient and I have great hopes for him.

Young Tayler Clark caught the best fish on a recent specialist course when he hooked and landed a 4lb tench from a very difficult swim without my help.

Dave Stoddart, one of my more experienced adult anglers, did well on a day on the river Kennet using a centre pin reel for the first time and learning to trot a float in a difficult swim he landed a 4lb chub on a 2.5lb hook length.

While still running beginners' courses at Twynersh as normal, I will be offering more of the special all day outings to various venues for my more experienced pupils.

STOP PRESS!
Dave Stoddard recently attended a course on stillwater legering. I took him to the Match lake at Burghfield on the RMC ticket. Despite the filthy weather he caught 13 carp to 8lb 7oz, including 3 personal bests. Well done Dave!
